the order Artifact: Resurrection Stone Last Found By: Harry Potter Owner: Harry Potter Current Location: Lost (The Forbidden Forest) History: A Horcrux as well as a Deathly Hallow, the Resurrection Stone has the power to shadows of loved ones you have lost to appear before you. It does not, however, have the power to bring back the dead as the name suggests. Originally owned by Cadmus Peverell, it was passed down the generations and made into a ring, then eventually stolen by Tom Riddle and made into a Horcrux. Albus Dumbledore came into possession of the ring and attempted to use the stone to see his lost parents and sister, but was cursed and nearly killed. He left the stone to Harry in his will, hidden inside a Golden Snitch. Artifact: Cloak of Invisibility Last Found By: Harry Potter Owner: Harry Potter Current Location: Harry Potter History: The second Deathly Hallow, this is no ordinary invisibility cloak. Passed down as a family heirloom, Ignotus Peverell was the original owner of the cloak, eventually coming into possession of James Potter, who left it to his son, Harry Potter. Unlike other invisibility cloaks, this one has an everlasting invisibility spell placed on it, has high durability, and provides some protection for it's owner. Artifact: Elder Wand Last Found By: Harry Potter Owner: Harry Potter Current Location: Unknown (Dumbledore's Grave) History: Originally owned by Antioch Peverell, the Elder Wand - one of the Deathly Hallows - has been known by many names over the hundreds of years of it's existence. It has passed through many hands and has a long, bloody trail behind it. The Elder Wand will not work for anyone but it's master, therefor the current owner of the wand must be defeated to gain ownership of the wand. What time period does this game take place in?

► This is a post Deathly Hallows game. In January, the year is 2000.

Do I have to keep to the epilogue's canon?

► Lost Relics is only canon up until the end of Deathly Hallows, not including the epilogue. It is up to each individual to decide if they wish to keep with the epilogue's canon or not. Considering the plot of this game, the epilogue can easily be considered not canon.

What is this game about?

► Please read the plot. Relics is a Harry Potter game set in 2000. Magical abilities are starting to fade all across the Wizarding community and the race is on for legendary magical relics to save or collapse society.

What state is the Wizarding World in?

► After a year of reconstruction, incidents of lost magical abilities started popping up across England and the world. Even those with pureblood lost the ability to cast even the simplest spell. Some believed this was an illness that could be spread like a virus, so many ex-wizards were pressured out of society and their jobs.

This fear that magical abilities would be completely lost made it easy for corrupt purebloods to take high standing positions in the Ministry so they could weed out those who lost their magic and remove them. Word of magical relics started spreading and soon the Ministry, Order and others started searching for them so that maybe they could regain lost powers or use the item against others.

Where did the journals come from? How do they work if magic is dying?

► Sophie Inkh, owner of the books and stationary shop called Tonnes of Tomes located in Scotland and collector of ancient wizarding books and journals, has recently come forward with a discovery. A visit to her vault at her local bank revealed a nearly long forgotten family heirloom: a pair of ancient Egyptian journals that seemed to be connected with powerful magic. Writing in one makes the writing appear in the other book, and vice versa. What's more, there seemed to be inscriptions how to use the journal to create private entries without using magic, as well as instructions on how to duplicate the journal's ancient magic into other journals. With the desire to keep the wizarding world in contact with each other, she happily worked with the Ministry to create enough journals to be sold across the world for all witches and wizards to use, regardless of if they can still use magic or not.

How do I apply?

Does my character have to lose their magic?

► Yes, absolutely. This is part of the game play for this role-play. It is up to you how fast or slowly your character loses their magical abilities, and how much they start with at the beginning of the game. It happens differently for everyone, regardless of their blood status. There is some freedom with it, but no one is exempt.

Can I change my characters initial alignment/sympathy?

► Please ask the Mods and we'll see what we can do.

I have a big plot idea, what do I do?

► We love plot ideas, so if you have any pitch them to us. All big plots must be accepted by both Mods before they can be put into motion.

In what point of view are journals being written? How do they work?

► All entries in a character's journal must be written in first person (like writing in a diary). RP threads are to be written in third person and posted in the appropriate community (lostrelicsrpg or lostrelicspast). Journals come with pre-existing charms on them so that even users without magic have the ability to use them to their full extent. Characters can write public entries in their journals, but also have the option of utilizing the pre-existing charms on the journals to make an entry entirely private, or make an entry private to a specific person/group of people.

general
► Activity: We would like to see at least one thread and two journal entries per month per character. If you need to go on a hiatus for any reason, please contact the Mods to let us know what's going on.

► While we are always going to do our best to stick to facts, not everything in this game will be historically accurate. This is fantasy and certain myths will be shaped to fit plot lines and magical items.

► Even though we don't discourage shipping, it's not the game's focus. Do not apply if your only interest is pairing up characters.

► If you have a problem please speak to the Mods first. Feedback is always appreciated, but keep it to constructive criticism.

► No derogatory remarks about the way people play their characters in game or on the OOC board. If you have a problem or concern, talk it out with them first, or bring it to Poufy or Cody.

► Do not bring OOC problems into the game. If you are angry at another player, work it out or contact the Mods.

► You may apply for up to four characters and secondary and third applications have more of a chance of being approved if you choose characters from different allegiances. However, you must be equally active with all your characters.

► No IP logging; there is no reason for this and makes some people feel uncomfortable. If you find someone logging IP please alert the Mods. To turn off IP logging, go to your Comment Settings and change the IP Address Log field to "no one."

the reconstruction
Enough of the old school was still in tact after the battle that children were able to return to their lessons after a mourning period for the dead - this time with new, proper teachers. Because of the unqualified teachers over the past year, all students were required to repeat their last year with an approved curriculum. Reconstruction on Hogwarts continued while students attended school. With Kingsley Shacklebolt as the new Minister of Magic, it seemed that a time of peace was finally settling upon the wizarding world once again, and this time with Lord Voldemort gone for good. Several Death Eaters were quickly brought to trial, some of which were deemed reformed - either by way of enough wealth to buy their way out, or pleading their innocence. Others were not so lucky, being sentenced to years in Azkaban prison, although no longer guarded by dementors.

It is unfortunate indeed that just as before, Death Eaters were able to lie their way out of the crimes they committed. For the second time they have lost their leader, and a small group of pureblooded Death Eaters have decided it is their time to rise into power. They, however, did not agree with Lord Voldemort's ways; accepting anyone less than a pureblood was hypocrisy against their cause. Not wanting their work to be confused with Voldemort's old followers, they have given themselves a new name, in honour of the Dark Lord's original cause - the Walpurgis Knights.

They no longer need to concern themselves with the Dark Lord's lust for immortality, and instead are able to fight for the cause in their own ways. Not one member of the Walpurgis Knights has more power than the other; each is pureblooded, and each has their own tasks and abilities to offer the Knights. The group also does not concentrate on mass murder or attempting to gain their control by senselessly killing others; taking a much more sophisticated approach, the Knights have worked their way into the Ministry of Magic, slowly taking over until finally controlling the Minister of Magic himself from behind the scenes, manipulating him to their will.

the death of magic
The change was so subtle that no one is quite sure when the first case occurred, or why it began to happen at all. However, just as mysteriously as magical powers appeared in this world, so too was it beginning to vanish. Wandless magic was the first to go, and is now completely unheard of. Soon after, powerful spells began failing, but no one had thought anything of it at the beginning - powerful spells were often complicated, and therefor did not always succeed. It was after this that more severe cases began to be noticed - although more and more cases were recorded beforehand, since March of 1999, there have been no children born with magical powers, regardless of blood status.

Magic seemed to be draining from witches and wizards across the world no matter their age, skill, or blood status. Everyone was losing their abilities at different rates; for some, it was a slow, steady drain, and for others, they could wake up the next day without any magic whatsoever. In the beginning, people panicked over the cause; some of the Walpurgis Knights even killed a few of there members, believing they were contaminated with a sickness, and did not want it to spread. Soon it was realized that it was not a sickness at all, but merely a natural phenomena. People began to lose their jobs, no long able to preform even the simplest of magical tasks, and many Ministry workers were the first to go, having the most demanding magical jobs.

Dragons, unicorns, and other fantastical beasts were slowly disappearing from the world along with the magic, no longer able to sustain themselves. Having taken magic for granted for so long, witches and wizards were now learning to live like Muggles - a term which would now one day become obsolete. Even wards that have lasted for years were beginning to fail. The Ministry has been working their hardest to keep the Muggles from stumbling upon wizarding locations that were previously protected by charms.

But not all magic was fading from the world.

the hunt begins
It is now the year 2000, just two years after the final battle at Hogwarts. Magical objects such as floo powder and broomsticks are rising in price, for although no more can be made, it seems that items already created with magic have been able to retain their powers for a short time. Mysteriously, there are some spells which do not seem to be fading - Harry Potter's Cloak of Invisibility has shown no sign of weakness, and the wards and spells on Hogwarts remain strong. With everything that has been able to keep their magical properties, there is one thing in common between them all - ancient magic.

Somehow, spells and objects that were created with ancient magic hundreds, and even thousands of years ago, have been able to preserve themselves. With this discovery, it became clear to many that this was the only chance to retain magical abilities. Some, such as the Walpurgis Knights, have begun to hunt for ancient, lost artifacts rumoured to have magical properties to gain power, using the Ministry of Magic as their tool - others, such as the Order of the Phoenix, wish to find said artifacts to keep them safe from those that would use the items for evil.

But the world is not black and white; there are ex-Death Eaters whom were shunned from the new organization, wishing to find the artifacts for themselves. Some merchants and thieves desire the artifacts merely to make a few Galleons; and there are others who are just desperate to keep some connection to the wizarding world.

Everyone has their reasons... what are yours?
